Peony Care
Waking Up Your Peonies
Your peonies were hand cut at the optimum stage of development and immediately chilled to 33 degrees to guarantee freshness, premium quality and long vase life. They are carefully packaged and dry shipped to you overnight. Immediately unpack your peonies and begin to wake them up by following the steps below. Because they are dry shipped, the leaves may appear wilted. Immediate re-hydration will solve this problem. We dry ship them and do not re-hydrated them before shipment as this starts the blooming process. We do not want the peonies opening during shipment. Do not store your peonies in a warm or hot location. If you have any questions, please contact us immediately.
-
In a clean container, add water. The buds will bloom faster in warm water and slower in cold water.
-
Cut the stem approximately one inch from the bottom. Remove any leaves that will be below the waterline.
-
The buds will bloom in 24 to 36 hours at room temperature or longer if refrigerated.
-
Water should be changed at least every two days to extend the vase life. Peonies are thirsty, make sure they have adequate water.
Once your peonies have bloomed to the stage that you prefer, you can maintain them at that stage longer by storing them in a refrigerator until ready for use. Also vase life can be extended by storing the vase/blooms in the refrigerator overnight or when not on display. Peonies can be stored in water 5 to 6 days. Peony vase life averages from 6 to 14 days depending environmental conditions, variety and treatment. Good care means longer vase life.
